There is a movement underway to get CBS News tossed as a "reliable source," usable by Wikipedia editors, because of the pernicious influence of Bari Weiss and her evening news anchor, Tony Dokoupil . A discussion on the subject is currently underway here.
As you can see from the link, the genesis of that discussion was this lengthy discussion here, in which Wikipedians clutched their pearls about a statement Dokoupil made when he started as anchor:
"On too many stories, the press has missed the story. Because we've taken into account the perspective of advocates and not the average American. Or we put too much weight in the analysis of academics or elites, and not enough on you."
That of course is true. But a user named Masem expressed deep concern, opining,
....given what's been happening at CBS of late, it seems to allude to disregarding the input of said experts. While we need to wait and see how this resolves in actual reporting, this is probably another piece of evidence to put onto the watch for CBS on whether it might remain a reliable source or not. No action can be taken immediately but we should be watching this closely now.
It must be emphasized that Masem is not a member of the "Wikipedia Flood" of pro-Hamas and antisemitic operatives who have flooded the site for several years. He is a longtime administrator with nearly 200,000 edits who has been on Wikipedia for twenty years.
Another user picked up on that in late June, commencing a discussion on the "reliable sources noticeboard," and a discussion has been underway on this ever since.
So that's where they are. The discussion so far has been inconclusive. No matter how it winds up, we have a reminder the Wikipedia's hopeless ideological slant, and its double standard that picks up any whiff of independent thinking from established news operations. You can bet that Al Jazeera receives no such scrutiny.
